At THB, students are automatically registered for all examinations specified in the standard study plan until they have been successfully completed. This does not apply to third attempts. Participation in a third attempt (within the standard period of study) is only possible if the “Examination Registration” form has been completed and submitted to the Examination Office at least 14 days before the examination. After the standard period of study has expired, automatic examination registration applies again.

There are two exam periods: the main exam period at the end of each semester and the corresponding re-examination period at the beginning of the following semester.

The exact dates are announced at the beginning of each semester.

Examiners have four weeks to grade the exams. After that, they post the results online. These can be viewed on the meinCampus-Portal and on the notice board in front of the Examination Office.

The meinCampus-Portal

offers various self-service functions. Among other things, you can print out your performance overviews.
The performance overview also allows you to see which exams you are registered for and when they will take place. You can also check whether withdrawals have been registered and entered, and in the case of elective modules, whether the correct subjects have been entered.

The following notes may appear after the individual exams and have the following meanings:

BE - Passed

NB - Failed

NE - Did not appear

++ - Passed

-- - Failed

EN - Definitely failed

KR - Withdrawal due to illness

RR - Withdrawal

SoP - Special exam date

SG - Withdrawal due to other reasons

No confirmation of receipt of the withdrawal will be sent.

Please check the meinCampus-Portal yourself to verify that you have been removed from the exams.

Yes, that is possible. To do so, the completed „Examination Registration“ form must be submitted to the Examination Office at least 14 days before the examination.

Registration for the re-examinations takes place after the results of the main examination have been received. If you withdraw from the main examination, you will be automatically registered for the re-examinations.

If you fail to attend an exam without a valid reason, the exam will be considered failed and will be graded with a 5.0 (unsatisfactory).

In the event of illness, the medical certificate must be submitted to the relevant examination office together with the withdrawal form no later than the third day after the examination. This must be submitted as an email attachment in PDF format.

If a medical certificate is submitted, the student may not take any examinations during the entire period of illness.

If the certificate confirms an illness and the student takes an exam during this period, the certificate loses its validity and the exam result counts.

A free attempt can only be requested for the first attempt at an exam. This attempt must have been taken. The final thesis is excluded from this. In the bachelor's program, it is possible to request a free attempt for two exams, and in the master's program for one exam. There are two different types:

1.           For an exam taken for the first time and not passed. The application deadline is no later than two weeks before the exam date.

2.           At the student's request, a passed exam can be repeated once to improve the grade. The better result counts. The application deadline is two weeks before the exam date.

The application for a free attempt must be submitted to the Examination Office at least two weeks before the third attempt or the repeat examination (in the case of grade improvement).

Once the examiners have submitted the colloquium grades to the Examination Office the final documents are prepared. This usually takes around four weeks. Once completed, the documents are sent by post from the Examination Office to the address stored in Campus Management.

BAföG recipients must submit proof of their current performance level to the BAföG office. All that is required for this is a current performance overview from the meinCampus-Portal as this overview contains the ECTS credits achieved:

Once the examiners have submitted the colloquium grades to the Examination Office the final documents are prepared. This usually takes around four weeks. Once completed, the documents are sent by post from the Examination Office to the address stored in Campus Management.

The thesis is considered failed and is graded with a 5.0 (unsatisfactory).

De-registration takes place at the end of the semester (February 28/29 or August 31). If you wish to de-register earlier, you must notify the relevant examination office in your application De-registration can take place at the earliest on the day of the colloquium.

The examiners send the results of the colloquium and the thesis to the Examination Office. The grades are then entered into the system and the results can be viewed on the meinCampus portal.

The transcript, certificate, diploma supplement, overview of academic achievements, and certificate of exmatriculation are then printed and circulated for signature. Once the documents have been returned from the signature circulation and sealed, they are sent by registered mail to the address stored in the system.

No further steps are necessary.

The date will be set in consultation with the first and second reviewers.

The colloquium must be held within six months of the thesis being submitted.

The assessment process should not exceed four weeks for bachelor's theses and six weeks for master's theses. In exceptional cases, the examination board may grant an extension of the assessment process by a maximum of four weeks upon prior request by both examiners.

The thesis can be submitted at the earliest after half of the regular processing time has elapsed.

A free attempt is not possible for final theses.

The final thesis may be repeated once. Registration must take place no later than the immediately following semester.

The form is completed in consultation with the first examiner. After the first examiner and you have signed the form, the completed form must be submitted to the relevant examination office either as an email attachment or as an original document.

The thesis must be registered no later than the semester immediately following the semester in which the requirements for registration for the thesis were met.

The registration must be submitted to the relevant examination office by the last day of the semester at the latest. (Winter semester: February 28/29, summer semester: August 31).

No, a copy of the form will be sent by mail from the relevant examination office. In addition, the registration for the thesis and the submission deadline can be viewed on the meinCampus portal. The form also indicates the start and latest submission dates for the thesis.

As with any exam, the illness must be reported to the Examination Office within three working days using the Application for Extension of Processing Time form and the doctor's note. The signature of the primary examiner is not required in this case. The processing time will then be extended by the number of days of illness. In individual cases, the examination board may extend the processing time upon receipt of a justified request (requrest for extentsion of the processing time) from the student; the request must be submitted in writing at least three weeks before the submission deadline. A statement from the primary reviewer must be included with the request. Upon request, the responsible examination board may grant an extension if the processing deadline cannot be met due to circumstances beyond the student's control.

The new submission deadline can be found on the meinCampus portal. Furthermore, a written notification will be sent by mail.

The thesis must be uploaded to the server by 11:59 p.m. on the submission date (see thesis registration form) at the latest.

The thesis can be submitted via the document server (OPUS) or via Gigamove.

When the thesis is uploaded to the portal, the submission date is logged and time-stamped.

Applications for recognition/credit transfer must be submitted in full for enrollment (in accordance with §3 (2) of the ImmaO of November 7, 2022) no later than eight weeks after the start of the program (in accordance with §10 (5) of the RO-THB of October 12, 2022). Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
