Deutsche Version

In December 2025, Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences (THB) and TecnoCampus, a university centre of Pompeu Fabra University in Mataró, Spain, signed a strategic partnership agreement. Less than six months later, a seven-member delegation from the Spanish university, led by its Vice-President for Internationalisation, Prof. Carlos Martínez Gaitero, visited THB. Discussions focused on teaching, research and future projects, with the aim of further strengthening the strategic partnership and developing new forms of cooperation.

The programme included a number of targeted working-level meetings and discussions on joint project proposals. Guests from TecnoCampus also had the opportunity to get to know THB better during a tour of the campus and laboratories. The programme also featured cultural activities such as a guided tour of the city and a visit to the Industrial Museum.

The visit took place at the same time as the International Media Camp (IMC), which has been jointly organised by the two universities since 2022 and is led by Prof. Stefan Kim (THB) and Prof. Fran Pinel Cabello (TecnoCampus). At THB, the IMC is a compulsory elective module within the Department of Computer Science and Media. In this module, participating students develop a multimedia application focusing on the cultural characteristics of the partner countries involved. In the second half of May, a return visit to TecnoCampus in Mataró will took place to mark the conclusion of this year’s project.

Other collaborations between the two universities have included, for example, the International Cybersecurity Week, which has been running since 2024. Two THB professors, Prof. Dr. Martin Wrobel and Prof. Dr. Michael Pilgermann, spent a research semester at TecnoCampus. Joint teaching projects have also taken place in the past. Further activities are currently being planned.

"Over the past few years, we have built a special partnership with TecnoCampus, which provides students at both universities with concrete opportunities for international learning experiences, whilst at the same time supporting the long-term internationalisation of THB through the exchange of teaching staff, staff members and ideas," says Prof. Julia Schnitzer, THB Vice-President for Teaching and International Affairs. "In this way, the partnership helps us to learn from one another and support each other in our development efforts in teaching, research and knowledge transfer, ensuring that both universities are well-positioned for the future."

TecnoCampus Mataró is located north-east of Barcelona and has around 4,000 students. It comprises four departments: Technology, Business, Health and Cultural Industries, and thus offers a similar range of degree programmes as THB.
